8th–Prayers for the Year

8th Grade Religion Prayers

In the 8th grade, students review prayers from previous school years and add 1 more prayer to the list of prayers to know by heart. The prayer this year is:

Glorious Mysteries

  • The Resurrection
  • The Ascension
  • The Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost
  • The Assumption of Mary
  • The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth

We will also have regular quizzes on reviewed prayers from grades PK-8 throughout the school year. The Archdiocese of Seattle asked for these prayers to be learned by heart.

The dates will be listed on the Homework Link as to when we will have the in class quiz over that particular prayer. Students who score less than a 3 on the prayer will be allowed to retest after more home study on that prayer. All retests need to be completed by the end of the trimester in which it is assigned.

In general, students will write out the prayers in class. Spelling and punctuation do not count against the grade. If your student has a special need and needs to do the quizzes orally, arrangements can be made to accommodate that need.

  1. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
    R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary…
    V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
    R. Be it done unto me according to thy word. Hail Mary…
    V. And the Word was made flesh.
    R. And dwelt among us. Hail Mary…
    V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
tR. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
    Let us pray:
Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ, thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by his Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of his Resurrection. Through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Hail, Holy Queen (7)

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us,and after this exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
